✓ This block begins with a discussion of what “behavior” means from the perspective of the science of behavior analysis. ✓ There won’t be too much theory, though some is necessary. Instructors provide clear examples to illustrate key behavioral principles. ✓ Homework is designed to help parents learn to recognize the connection between behavior and changing events in the environment. Participants share their own examples, showing that every behavior makes sense to the person demonstrating it. To others, that same behavior may seem unnecessary, negative, or even harmful. ✓ By the end of this block, parents will be able to make informed guesses about the reasons behind behavior based on observation. This ability to identify possible causes will help parents later choose the most effective strategies for behavior change. ✓ How to select methods based on observation data will be covered in more detail in Blocks 4 and 6.
