✓ This block is recommended for anyone who has ever faced their child’s challenging behavior and didn’t know what to do. It gives parents in-depth knowledge and practical skills to prevent undesirable behavior and successfully replace it with socially appropriate alternatives. ✓ Participants will review different preventative strategies. Sometimes we can change something in the environment so that the behavior doesn’t occur at all. That doesn’t mean the behavior will never happen again—but these “quiet moments” without the problem behavior are important opportunities to teach new skills. ✓ Parents who have completed the earlier blocks will already understand that punishment doesn’t work and will have experience addressing behavior without it. ✓ Parents who join starting with this block will receive more individualized support from instructors and additional assignments to help them catch up on the material. ✓ All participants will need to keep observing their child closely and recording what they see. Instructors will recommend the most effective data sheets for each case. There is no single “universal” observation form—just like there is no single reinforcer that works for every child! What matters is that the form is simple enough to complete, because then it truly supports the work.
